As Programme Assistant, you will be joining our professional services support team, which is currently 10 strong. This role is a new opportunity which aims to support the student assessment cycle as well as working collaboratively with the other members of the administrative support team.

Role responsibilities

• Respond to queries from staff, students, visitors and other external bodies with advice or information in a confidential and sensitive way, as appropriate.
• Maintain student records in relation to the student lifecycle, including attendance, module choice and appropriate assessment information.
• Support the assessment cycle including Examination Boards, Assessment Review Committee and related meetings. Attendance and minute taking at meetings will be required.
• Undertake the role of Unfair Means Administrator, liaising with the Unfair Means Officer to organise and document meetings.
• Responsible for coordinating National Training Council for Journalists (NCTJ ) examinations for the Department working closely with the Finance Officer and Exams team to ensure effective delivery.
• Stay up to date on new developments (both in knowledge and working practices) in areas relevant to your main activities/responsibilities.
• Work collaboratively as part of the administrative support team and providing cover for other members of the team, as required (including sickness, holiday cover and the service needs ofthe department).
• Work with Faculty colleagues across Departmental boundaries to improve processes and service delivery as relevant and within the scope of the role.
• Participate in preparing for the new academic year and student registration events.
• Provide a customer-focused, high quality reception service, dealing with a range of enquiries (in person, by telephone/email/social media)
• Welcome visitors, respond to enquiries and, where appropriate, taking follow-up action.

Person specification

The ideal candidate will be highly computer literate with 5 GCSE’s (including English and Maths) or equivalent. You will have proven ability to work effectively, provide solutions to problems and achieve objectives. You will be flexible, well-motivated and enthusiastic, staying constantly updated on new developments in areas relevant to your main responsibilities. Ability to deal with confidential information in line with the data protection act and University policy and procedure is essential.
