How would we sum it up?
This is a brilliant opportunity for an independent and personable Engineer to work and lead on projects from start to finish. Some of your time will be spent on-site and some of it will be spent working on designs in-house. You’ll be involved in the entire project process, from understanding client requirements to the drawing and design, delivering and on-going support that suit their needs. To succeed, you will need a logical mind, a passion for engineering and the ability to understand complex processes and systems.

The business is Allied Glazing Systems, specialists in Aluminium Glazing Systems for buildings of all sizes from an individual window in a house, to a project for Bentley Motors with two 7,200sqm, 4 storey office blocks. Working with Aluminium systems suppliers such as Senior Architectural Systems, Comar and Schuco, and customers including Kier, Sheffield City Council and Bowmer & Kirkland, the business has an impressive turnover of £3.1m. What are all the practical details?
Starting salary: £20,000 - £25,000pa depending on skills and experience
Location: 60 Cyclops Street, Sheffield, S4 8EH
Start date: November/December 2018
Length of internship: Permanent with a six-month probationary period

Role responsibilities

What would you be doing?
Typical activities might include:
• Project management including the stages of framing design and material optimisation, site surveying and managing the installation.
• Using CAD programmes to create design drawings for customer approval ready for use in the factory.
• Visiting client sites to understand their requirements and inform them of progress
• Liaising with colleagues across the business and working within a team
• Opportunity to take up training to develop and share knowledge
• Working closely with Architects to understand their vision, solve potential problems and make decisions to ensure the product they envisage will work
• Ensuring all projects are adhered to accreditations and standards

Person specification

What type of person are they looking for?
The ideal candidate will:
• Be a graduate in any Engineering discipline, but Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers and Electronic Engineers are particularly encouraged to apply
• Have experience with CAD software, like Solidworks and AutoCAD
• Be an excellent communicator who is confident and customer-focussed. You’ll be frequently visiting different client sites, so the ability to build rapport, speak up and stand your ground is key!
• Be computer literate with using MS Office programs
• Have an attention to detail understanding processes in a logical and organised way
• Enjoy a challenge and be able to work under pressure
• Can work as part of a small team
• To be compliant and commercially aware
• It would be great if you have had exposure to legal training, but don’t be put off if not!
